We were sitting at our tables, politely introducing ourselves. When it was Barbara’s turn she stood up and without being afraid of what we might think, simply said, “I’m here because my son, Terry, died by suicide.” I listened to Barbara as she explained why she wants to help others who are left behind by someone’s suicide. Barbara wasn’t apologetic about Terry’s suicide. Terry suffered with severe depression and then one day, in the grip of the terrible darkness, he used a gun to end his life. CONTINUE READING......

Suicide is a major outcome of depression that most of us have difficulties dealing with or understanding why the person would commit such an act. It enrages and frustrates us. It makes us weep and wonder if we could have done something to help. A suicide can shut us down emotionally because dealing with the loss is too painful. There’s been a lot of tweets and other social media comments going around blaming Williams for not being emotionally stronger or choosing suicide as an easy way out.
