As many of you know, I've been invited by Orrin Lyseng, Executive Director of AAMIMH, to take part in the CDRIN Training Program. It's my first time at this event and so I'm really excited!
What is the CDRIN? It is the Canadian Depression Research and Intervention Network which connects and brings together Canada's mental health research community, service providers and persons living with depression and PTSD in ways that will open new approaches to detect, prevent and treat these life altering illnesses. It's a partnership of the Mood Disorders Society of Canada, the Mental Health Commission of Canada, The Royal's Research Institute, and the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research.
This year it's hosted by the Mood Disorders Society of Canada.
CDRIN training is taking place at the Delta Bow Vally in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from Sept.11-13. Today, Sept. 10 was check-in day! What wonderfully pleasant surprises awaited me!
Today was a historic snow storm for Calgary! That's right. It was reported that 20cm of snow fell, breaking tree branches and causing power outages across the city. The storm was so bad it made the front page of the Huffington Post! I waited until noon to depart and by that time the highway driving was good and I made it into Calgary without any mishaps.
2. Awesome Greeting By The Front Desk!
The hotel clerk was extremely friendly and polite. She didn't mind answering my questions and even provided a few tips for staying in Calgary. A porter took my luggage up to the 23rd floor. Haha! I don't like heights and as I joked about it, he suggested closing the blinds -- right after he told me the windows can open to let in some fresh air.
Here's a panoramic view of my gorgeous room and the view of Calgary from my 23rd floor window.
I just finished unpacking and turned on my laptop to start this blog when there was a knock at the door. A staff member handed me a complimentary bottle of distilled water and truffle chocolates! I'm in chocolate heaven now!
